Women veterans from the Navajo Nation face distinct challenges, including limited access to healthcare, cultural barriers, and a lack of representation in veteran services. These issues are compounded by broader challenges faced by tribal veterans, such as lower incomes, education levels, and higher unemployment rates compared to other veteran groups. Additionally, many tribal veterans lack health insurance and experience disabilities at a higher rate, often facing geographical isolation that limits their access to necessary support.
There are approximately 160,000 Indigenous veterans in the U.S., with Native Americans serving at the highest per-capita rate of any ethnic group. Despite their significant contributions to the U.S. military, these veterans often encounter systemic gaps in care and support. In a heartfelt video, Navajo women veterans shed light on these issues, calling for greater awareness and targeted efforts to address the unique needs of tribal veterans. Mission Roll Call is dedicated to advocating for these underserved communities, ensuring that all veterans receive the recognition and support they deserve.
