VETERAN'S STORY
He entered the Marine Corps, and training took him directly to the Pacific he became one of the first Marine Raiders. During his time in WWII, he found himself fighting in places such as Guam, Bougainville Island, Peleliu, and Iwo Jima. One amphibious landing after another he made his way across the Pacific theatre. This time in 1950 when he was called back in the Korean War. In Korea, he became one of the Marine Corps Chosin Few by surviving the frozen wasteland of the Chosin Reservoir. Enduring the freezing temperatures and having to fight both day and night against the constant ways of Chinese attacks. During this part of the war, he was hit by a piece of shrapnel which resulted in him being awarded a Purple Heart. He was sent aboard a hospital ship where all his wounds were treated, and he was returned to combat in the Battle of Seoul. After being released from service he worked a full career with the U.S. Corps of Engineers. He lived until the age of 88 years old.
