Less than 50% of veterans are enrolled in the VA, and fewer than half receive needed mental health treatment. This is largely due to difficulty navigating the VA system, lack awareness of benefits, and limited access to facilities, especially in rural areas. More than four million veterans live in rural communities, where preventive care and emergency services are harder to access. This is critical, as over half are 65+ and face higher rates of diabetes, hypertension, and heart conditions. Mission Roll Call advocates for increased funding for community-based programs. Legislative action is needed to enhance outreach, expand support networks, and implement policy reforms to address the unique challenges faced by veterans across the nation– especially in underserved communities.
