SSG Jeffrey Alpert
Service Story
SSG Jeff Alpert probably spent more time on TDY than he did serving in his primary MOS of 11E. He participated in REFORGER 1 IN 1969, then it was off to Vietnam with the 3/5 Cavalry, returning in 1970 with multiple Bronze Stars, a CIB, a couple Crosses of Gallantry, PTSD and a great tan. From the mountains of I Corps it was to the snowy slopes of Colorado next with a horse cavalry unit and a tankless tank battalion. Before the horse shit settled it was off to Ft. Knox to see if a strange new vehicle called a Bradley Fighting Vehicle could keep up over hills and dales with M-60s. Discovering (with a few modifications) that it could, Before his after action report was even begun he was yanked off to West Germany to endure the horror alert of the Munich Olympics. Surviving that terrorist event SSG A was ordered by his Brigade Commander to become a social activities coordinator for the Patch/Panzer AO. Three years later we find him a Drill Instructor in Kansas. That was it for this boy…
